7/17 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10-12:35, mid tide
receding. 90F, sunny.
At 10, female osprey was in nest with the juvenile. Male osprey on his
perch.
"We have lift off". Juvenile osprey watched the female fly up to the
camera, after which, it proceeded to flap its wings and hop around the nest
for several minutes. It was fun to watch as it tested its wings and lifted
off. It did not leave the nest area though-but pretty soon.
On the marsh were several Great egrets, snowy egrets, mute swans, a Yellow
crowned night heron, 10 D.C. cormorants far out, and a mixed flock of about
200+ , least sandpipers , semipalmated sandpipers and a couple of others I
couldn't identify.
On the grounds-the Purple Martin condo gourds were very active and
noisy-counted 25 Purple Martins, Song sparrows, mourning doves, Starlings,
American Robins-with several juveniles, Red winged blackbirds, Cardinals,
Carolina wren singing.
