7/28/13 - Sterling yard - 42 species - YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO (2), BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, PURPLE FINCH (1f).
Also first large group of blackbirds of the season consisting of 150 Common Grackles, 20 Red-winged Blackbirds and a few Brown-headed Cowbirds.
Earlier in the week Linda photographed a Common Yellowthroat feeding two juvenile Brown-headed Cowbirds, which is not that unusual. The interesting thing is that it was feeding them seed (millet) under the feeders. Amazing that it knows that these are seed eaters and has to teach them this.
Also had a Common Grackle kill an injured House Sparrow under the feeders (not the first time this has happened).
