fyi, another opportunity to highlight the importance of state parks for birds and birding with this event coming up in Hartford:

On Tuesday, August 13, join Tom Tyler, Director of the State Parks & Public Outreach Division of the DEEP, as he discusses the Centennial Celebration of Connecticut State Parks at the Old State House in Hartford. Discover how a small group of businessmen and naturalists recognized a need to preserve the Connecticut's special places from industrialization, formed the State Park Commission, and began saving some of the state's most beautiful places for public enjoyment. Today, Connecticut's State Parks and Forests host 8 million visitors annually.

Following Mr. Tyler's talk, he will be joined by Dr. Eugene Leach, Professor Emeritus, Trinity College and Mary Rickel Pelletier, of the Hartford Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission for a panel discussion about parks, forests, and amusement parks such as the now-defunct Luna Park. Diane Smith, the Connecticut Network's Senior Producer for Program Development, will moderate the program Get in the spirit of summertime while enjoying your lunch in an air conditioned space. The program begins at noon and is FREE.

Bring your parking ticket from the Constitution Plaza Garage or State House Square Garage to be validated for $5. Go to the http://www.ctoldstatehouse.com/ or call to learn more, or
