9/22/13, in New Haven, at Lighthouse Point Park, on the early morning bird
walk as part of the MIGRATION FESTIVAL-3 CASPIAN TERNS. Seen flying along
the shore out of the harbor and into the sound. Not relocated. Large terns
with stout orange bills and black caps. Best distinguished from Royal Terns
this time of year by the black cap, as Royal Terns molt into non-breeding
plumage earlier in the year. Tail was notched, not deeply forked.

The migration festival is in progress and should be a great time. There are
live raptor shows and there should be plenty of hawks migrating past the
park today on the NW winds.
