9/28/13 Madison, Hammonasset Beach SP. The bill and head of a very secretive AMERICAN BITTERN was seen by a fair number of birders in the marsh just east of the Nature Center parking lot in mid-afternoon. Although it was quite close to the edge of the marsh near the parking lot, and also staying in place the entire time, it only rarely lifted its head up high enough to be detectable. A few of us also had a close up view of a PEREGRINE FALCON fly directly overhead at the north end of Willard's Island. I posted this in case some people might want to look for the Bittern.
