'Another day of this chronic "Nor'easter", ie, steady NE and E winds, beautiful building cumulus for contrast, and few (59) hawks. Here we are at peak season for Lighthouse, hoping desperately for some blocking weather followed by very, very, very strong NW winds. One can dream!
We had a typical BWD/NHBC Big Sit! day at the hawk watch: 49 species, including a fleeting glimpse of 2 Common Merganser (extremely rare compared to RB Merganser, heading SW over the New Haven Harbor), 4 Rusty Blackbirds, and an equally rare (for the parking lot, that is) heard-only Northern Cardinal. A typical sedentary effort. No early am thrush/owl listeners, no tagging-up and chasing nearby Park specialties, eg., Song and White-throated Sparrow.
Tree Swallow (500+ over the Park for several hours), Blue Jay, House Finch, Titmouse, and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker continue to be on the move.
"The Coops" team consisted of Steve Mayo and Cheryl Blum, and some extremely valuable walk-ons: Bobbie Fisher, Dori Sosensky, Greg Hanisek, John Marshall, Judy Moore, Lynn James, Fran Zygmont, Angela Dimmitt, Wendy Panikkor,
Jay Coles, Carol Perrault, Evelyn Gelerter, Bernard and Dawn Dambron,
Bob Lamotte, the Acamporas, Nancy Meyer-Lustman, Mary Mayer, John
Marshall, Jim Cortina, Maria Stockmal, and several others..
