The West Haven Watershed Restoration Committee (WHWRC), in partnership with the City of West Haven and the Menunkatuck Audubon Society, recently received an IBA Small Matching Grant to make improvements at the Sandy Point Important Bird Area in West Haven, CT. Together, they will repair the kiosk, add educational signs about the bird sanctuary, and remove invasive plants, replacing them with native salt tolerant species.

The WHWRC will be hosting two invasive plant species removal days this month and are looking for volunteers. The dates are Sunday, October 20th and Saturday, October 26th from 9:00-3:00p. Both days are rain or shine unless the weather is really terrible. Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves and equipment, such as pruning shears, shovels, and rakes. Park in the Sandy Point lot at the intersection of Beach Street and 3rd Avenue Extension in West Haven.
