*COA Mini-Grant Applications for 2014 are being Accepted*

The COA Mini-grant Committee is requesting applications for projects to be
funded in 2014. The Mini-grant program was established “to help fund and
support initiatives within the state of Connecticut which *specifically
benefit the avian wildlife *in our state.” As examples, the following
projects were selected for funding in 2013:

*Cove Island Wildlife Sanctuary* - funds to purchase dune grass plugs for
restoration of shoreline damage from Hurricane Sandy;

*Litchfield Hills Audubon Society* - funds to restore and add Bluebird nest
boxes to an existing Bluebird trail;

*Tom Sayers* - funds to construct and place ten Kestrel nest boxes;

*Charlotte Weston* - funds for a new mist net and banding pliers for
ongoing educational banding studies at Milford Point;

*Menunkatuck Audubon Society* - funds to purchase solar powered audio
equipment to attract Purple Martins to an existing Martin house; and

*Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation Center* - funds to build a 16’ x 20’
aviary to house three owls used in their education programs.

COA is proud to be able to assist in such worthwhile projects, and
especially to assist with efforts on behalf of the Purple Martins and
Kestrels, both of which are listed in Connecticut as “threatened.”

The total amount available for Mini-grants is $2,500.00. The deadline for
2014 applications is January 15, 2014. Forms are available on the COA
