[CT Birds] New Haven CBC Results

12/14/13:  In New Haven:  114th Annual New Haven Christmas Bird Count
Summary:  118 total species with highlights as follows:  CACKLING GOOSE (in
Quinnipiac River in New Haven), drake EURASIAN WIGEON (off Indian Neck in
Branford), HARLEQUIN DUCK (Merwin Point, Milford), BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (in
East Haven), KING RAIL (in Tabor Marsh in Branford), adult ICELAND GULL (in
Quinnipiac Marsh in Hamden), SNOWY OWL (at Long Wharf in New Haven Harbor),
RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (continuing bird in New Haven), EASTERN PHOEBE (at
Lighthouse Point Park), MARSH WREN (in Branford), NASHVILLE WARBLER (in
Branford), several PINE and PALM WARBLER, CHIPPING SPARROW, VESPER SPARROW
(in North Haven), WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and a large flock of RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS (in Edgewood Park in New Haven).   Notable misses included:
Pied-billed Grebe, both vultures, Merlin, Black-bellied Plover, Red-breasted
Nuthatch, and Snow Bunting.   

Congratulations to all of the dedicated birders who went out for this census
on this cold and snowy day.
