1/5/14 - Plainfield, Quinebaug Fish Hatchery - Sunday morning bird walk. Six hardy participants joined me to find 33 species. Highlights - WINTER WREN, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, WILSON'S SNIPE (2), HERMIT THRUSH, BALD EAGLE (3), GREEN-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN SHOVELER (3), SWAMP SPARROW (3), WOOD DUCK (3), YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER (2), RUSTY BLACKBIRD (3).
N. Stonington, Ryder Rd. - with Linda Dixon, John Marshall and the Rottino's - imm. RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues. Also YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER.
Stonington, Barn Island - MERLIN, KILLDEER, AMERICAN PIPIT (3), GREATER SCAUP (6) and hundreds of Hooded Mergansers and Bufflehead.
Ledyard, Rte. 2  near Foxwoods Casino - BLACK VULTURE (6).
Preston, Amos Lake - RUDDY DUCK (2), AMERICAN  COOT (7), BROWN CREEPER.
