I'm a member of a raptor rehabilitation list serve where this situationhas been discussed at length. The rehabilitator/member who was caringfor the Snowy Owl posted a necropsy photo showing the burst carotid artery. Another member noted there was a lot of fatty tissue around the heart. An interesting observation which may add to the knowledge base of SnowyOwls - more research is needed on this species and its natural history.Needless to say, the rehabilitator is shocked and devastated over the owl'ssudden death, especially in light of how well it was recovering. It was being rehabbed, but died suddenly.
