Paul . . . I was birding at Brazos Rd. for about an hour this morning. I parked right at the NO PARKING sign. I believe the signs are meant for "in season" beach weather. While I was there, there were 2 police cars and a fire truck tending to flooding problems. I was not questioned about my vehicle being parked there.
Birds saw: Barrows Goldeneye, Long-tailed duck, Surf Scoter, Harlequin Duck, (I believe it might be a 1st winter male), Red-breasted Mergansers and Common Goldeneye. . . . Phil Asprelli

I, too, was worried about the private beach signs at Brazos Rd in East Haven. However, the woman who owns the undeveloped beach lot at the end of Brazos Rd. approached me excitedly in early December to ask if I'd seen the Barrow's Goldeneye. She lives a block back from the beach. She's thrilled to have birders coming. However she does not want people walking their dogs on the beach. So we have her enthusiastic permission. I'm not sure exactly how much of the beach that encompasses, but I think the private property only extends to the high tide line.
This list is provided by the Connecticut Ornithological Association (COA) for the discussion of birds and birding in Connecticut.
