[CT Birds] Red-necked Grebe, Snowy Owls, et al

1/12/14:  In Stratford and Milford: highlights of the New Haven Bird Club
field trip, held this morning:  1 RED-NECKED GREBE, 1 drake EURASIAN WIGEON,
and 2 SURF SCOTER, at Stratford Point.  Also, one first cycle ICELAND GULL
seen at the south end of the breakwater jetty. Also, one odd looking drake
American Wigeon with a bright green and cream colored head (hybrid?) seen in
the same flock as the Eurasian Wigeon.  Three SNOWY OWLS seen at one time in
the Great Meadow Marsh in Stratford.  The large second cycle ICELAND GULL
continues at Long Beach.  Another SNOWY OWL was seen later at the airport
and 1-2 were seen at the Milford Audubon Coastal Center marsh.  A second
Eurasian Wigeon was seen in the inlet at Short Beach.  One juvenile
Black-crowned Night-Heron was observed roosting at the edge of the pond
behind the building at Access Road.  22 Canvasback were in Frash Pond.
American Coots were observed at the Birdseye Boat Ramp in Stratford and in
Mondo Pond in Milford.
