[CT Birds] 1/11 - 1/12: BARNACLE GOOSE, CACKLING GOOSE ++, Fairfield

I enjoyed an awesome weekend of birding in Fairfield, hitting locations
throughout the town on both Saturday and Sunday. The highlights from my
efforts are below:
>From Alex Burdo:
1/11 - Fairfield, Metro Conservation Area -- 3 Gadwall, 1 Red-tailed Hawk,
1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 5 American Tree Sparrow.
Fairfield, Upper Ash Creek (viewed from the Jewish Home for the Elderly on
the Post Road) -- 2 male EURASIAN WIGEON continue, 25 CANVASBACK. Great
numbers and variety of commoner waterfowl also continue, including: 27
Canada Goose, 3 Mute Swan, 23 Gadwall, 87 American Wigeon, 145 American
Black Duck, 9 Mallard, 1 American Black Duck x Mallard, 1 Bufflehead, 1
Hooded Merganser. A Killdeer was also around.

1/12 - Fairfield, Pine Creek area -- A terrific total of 38 species
including: 1 COMMON RAVEN (heard only), 1 HORNED LARK (flyover), 1 WINTER
WREN, 2 GRAY CATBIRD, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT (flyover), 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 1
Red-shouldered Hawk, 2 Belted Kingfisher, 2 American Tree Sparrow, 4
Red-winged Blackbird, 20 Brown-headed Cowbird.

1/12 -- Fairfield, Sunken Island -- 1 BLACK SCOTER (female among Greater
Scaup), 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 1 NORTHERN GANNET, 19 Brant, 3 American
Black Duck, 150 Greater Scaup, 4 Long-tailed Duck, 1 Common Goldeneye, 9
Fairfield, Fairfield Country Club (viewed from Sasco Hill Road) -- The
BARNACLE GOOSE and CACKLING GOOSE continue with a flock of around 525
Fairfield, Fairfield University -- 1 WINTER WREN, 8 Wild Turkey.
