Long-tailed Duck has been reported to have been caught in nets at a maximum
depth of 240' - not 400'. That still makes it the probable champion deep
diver among ducks. Also, according to the information about Long-tailed
Duck in the old (1951) volume "Audubon Water Bird Guide," (Doubleday and
Company, Richard Pough), there was an instance when 27,000 Long-tailed
Ducks were caught in gill nets during one spring. I think that was on one
of the Great Lakes.
