Passing along this word from Ranger Dan Barvir:
There will be a Trail race in East Rock Park on Sunday May 4th,2014 from 8am to 12noon. Dan Barvir worked hard to re-direct the route and they will not use the a loop trail by the Eli Whitney Museum and Waterfall area.
They will however be using the Foot bridge trail to East Rock Rd , which may mean contact with birders. Also the course will be using the entire rest of the park , which means vehicle access will be limited in the park. It is highly suggested that you select some other area to bird that day and sincerely apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Notices will be posted at the Covered bridge when it is closer to the event.
There are many nearby area that area also good for birding at this time of year.
Edgerton Park, West Rock Ridge State Park and Edgewood Park and Branford Supply Ponds. Other good choices around the state can include Salt Meadow Unit in Westbrook, the East River Preserve and Salt Meadows Sanctuary in Guilford, Milford Point (good for landbirds sometimes too) and Sandy Point (shorebirding can be great in May), the Bent of the River, Hammonasset, Rocky Hill Meadows, Station 43, River Road in Kent, Naugatuck State Forest, Nehantic State Forest, Chatfield Hollow, Portland Meadows (if not flooded), Fairchild Garden and Audubon Greenwich...
