I microwave eggshells and break them into smallish pieces which I put out
under the bird feeders.  They don't last long at this time of year.  They
provide much needed calcium for the females and even males take some.  I
also think it cuts down on egg predation.  If the shells are from hard
boiled eggs, no need to microwave them.
