State Legislature Passes Senate Bill 29 to Secure Funding for “The Preserve”
Last night [Tuesday], State Representative Phil Miller reported on his Facebook page “that both the Senate and the House passed Senate Bill 29, which secures the State and Federal funding towards the purchase of the 1000 acre Preserve.”  We wish to thank State Representatives Phil Miller and Marilyn Giuliano, State Senators Art Linares and Andrea Stillman, and others, for their support of the bill.  The next step in the process will be the Governor’s signature on the bill and action by the Bonding Commission at the end of May.
Old Saybrook Board of Finance Will Hold a Public Hearing on “The Preserve” at its Meeting on Tuesday, May 20th
Last evening [Tuesday], the Board of Finance (BoF) discussed  many matters regarding the possible purchase and ownership of The Preserve.  On hand were Kate Brown and Alicia Sullivan of The Trust for Public Land, as well as Graham Stevens of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.  Fred Carstensen, Director of the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis at UCONN, discussed the economic impacts of preserving the 1,000 acre tract of land.  Additionally, former first selectwoman Barbara Maynard, and former selectman, Bill Peace, provided input during the public comment period.  The Board of Finance determined it will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 20th at 7pm regarding moving a $3 million bond authorization (towards purchase of The Preserve) to a public referendum.  The BoF typically holds its meetings at Town Hall, but this could change.  Updates on the meeting and location will be published in the next
 newsletter.
