From Steve Broker (Cheshire):
05/14/14 - New Haven, East Rock Park, English Drive opposite Rice Field, start of road to the Giant Steps (8:25 A.M. - 10:10 A.M.) -- The immature male Summer Tanager was observed for a period of 5 minutes beginning at 8:40 A.M.. It was first seen flying into the large spruce tree from the direction of English Drive. The bird remained in the spruce, giving periodic good views as it foraged. A Scarlet Tanager then was observed to chase the Summer Tanager to the east and into the deciduous forest, ending the observations. Christine Howe took a series of photographs of the Summer Tanager. Also seen in the spruce, the adjacent oak, and surrounding trees were at least 3 Cape May Warblers, 2-3 Bay-breasted Warblers (8:53, 9:46, 10:08 A.M.), a male Blackburnian Warbler, and one or more Black-and-white Warblers, American Redstarts, Northern Parulas, Magnolia Warblers, Blackpoll Warblers, Black-throated Blue Warblers, and Black-throated Green Warblers. A Wood Thrush also gave close views.
