Highlights from birding today in the Lyme area with Kathy Van der Aue and Tina Green:
Gungy Rd Powercut, 36 species: 2 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 1 LEAST FLYCATCHER, 9 species of warbler including 1 CERULEAN, 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 2 Field Sparrow, 1 Cooper's Hawk
Hartman Park, 22 species: 1 LEAST FLYCATCHER, 1 Yellow-throated Vireo
Beaver Brook Rd.: 1 Indigo Bunting
Nehantic SF, 28 species, all species seen on quick drive thru the forest on main road: 1 Broad-winged Hawk, 2 Scarlet Tanagers, 1 Indigo Bunting, 7 species of warblers including Blue-winged and Worm-eating.
For us it was a 4 species Vireo day: We had Red-eyed everywhere, along with many Warbling, 1
Yellow-throated, and 2 White-eyed. American Redstarts were by far the most common birds seen and heard, along with numerous Wood Thrush and Ovenbirds. Most birds seen or heard today were species that nest here, very few were migrants.
