>From Mark Scott: 5/29/14 -- Farmington Canal Trail, Hamden -- mourning warbler. Bird was seen/heard as of 10:30 a. m. near mile 3.9 of the canal trail. To get to this spot would require a walk or bicycle ride of close to a mile from the nearest parking area. Directions: find the "T" intersection of Whitney Avenue and Sherman Avenue in Hamden. Take Sherman Avenue for about a mile until you see a public parking lot on the left. It may be marked for canal trail use. Park there; you will see the trail adjacent to the lot. With your back to Sherman Avenue, follow the trail to the right, which is south and in the direction of New Haven. (Left is north and in the direction of Cheshire.) The trail curves to the left and descends, then straightens out again. Look for a fenced-off field to the left and a green metal bench to the right; and also, the number "3.9" in blue paint on the canal pavement (it is rather faded). Close to these landmarks the field ends and
the woods begin. There is also a sign here indicating that the field is under video surveillance. The bird was found low in the greenery at this field/woods edge. It was singing intermittently.
