6/11 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center 10-1PM, high tide
receding, 65F.
At 10AM the female osprey was on the nest calling, male on the perch with a
fish. At 10:10 he brought in the fish to nest. Both parents feeding the
chicks. 3 chicks are very large and the last hatched is tiny. Smallest
one was hunkered down, not moving. If it tried to get fed, the larger
chicks continually attacked it. I know it's nature, but it's hard to
watch. The smallest chick was not fed at this feeding.
At 11AM the male brought in another fish, and again the 3 larger chicks
were fed, then they lay down on top of the smallest chick, preventing it
from being fed. Finally at12:35PM the tiny chick got fed a bit. There
are 2 other ospreys in the area.
On the marsh were D.C. Cormorants, 1 Great Egret, 2 mallards, 8 Mute
swans. On the grounds were cardinals, Purple Martins(nesting) robins,
House wren singing, Common Grackles, Red winged blackbird, Mourning doves.
