[CT Birds] "Red-headed" Downy Woodpecker

At the suet feeder today was a Downy Woodpecker, with a nice red cap -- neither the red forehead of the immature nor the red at the back of the mature.  (Link to photos below -- open to all.)

Now, I'm not trying to claim it's a Nuttall's, but is this a known, fairly common variant?  Is it a form of the immature?
