​7/16/14  Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center   9am-1PM, rainy,
overcast, then clearing,  73-78F,
low tide rising.
At 9AM the female osprey was on the nest with 3 chicks.  Male was on perch
with a flounder.  male then brought the fish to the nest and the female
proceeded to feed each of the 3 chicks.  The chicks are now starting to
feed themselves too.
On the marsh:  11 MALLARDS,  6 D.C. CORMORANTS, 8 SNOWY EGRETS, 6 GREAT
EGRETS, MUTE SWANS, LEAST & COMMON TERNS-observed diving for fish, 3 YELLOW
CROWNED NIGHT HERONS- 2 on marsh, 1 a flyover,  2 separate flocks of
SANDPIPER TYPES flying through marsh (one with about 50 birds and the other
with over 100).  When the flocks landed, I observed both LEAST SANDPIPERS
AND SEMI PALMATED SANDPIPERS, possibly others in groups too.
On grounds:  COMMON GRACKLES, ROBINS, CATBIRDS, A MOCKINGBIRD,2 CAROLINA
WRENS,
the PURPLE MARTINS in and around gourds with both adults & juveniles seen,
6 MOURNING DOVES, 13 JUVENILE STARLINGS all feeding on ground and eating
berries from trees,  SONG SPARROWS, A BARN SWALLOW,  and  1 female ORCHARD
ORIOLE feeding in the basswood trees.
