>From Dana Campbell and friends:
9/12 - New Haven - Lighthouse Point Park Hawk watch - 148 migrating raptors
counted including 67 American Kestrels, 6 Merlins, and 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS
feasting on the abundant supply of dragonflies. Also 36 Osprey, 4 adult
Bald Eagles, 2 Northern Harriers, 13 Sharp-shinned Hawks 5 Cooper's Hawks,
one migrating Turkey Vulture, and one Broad-winged Hawk. There were
several local raptors including Osprey, a Merlin, a juvie Red-shouldered
Hawk, and two Red-tails.
Small migrants included 1 Common Nighthawk, 3 Blue-grey Gnatcatchers, 26
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 25 Bobolink, 75 Cedar Waxwings 15 Red-winged
Blackbirds, and 12 Chimney Swifts.
Thanks to the intrepid crew that braved excruciatingly blue skies to
count: Bill Banks, Sol Satin, Don Morgan, Lynn James, Marty Moore, and
Howie Sternberg-our eagle spotter extraordinaire.
