The late season Buteos have finally started to move here at Audubon
Greenwich. 42 Red-Shoulders (including many beautiful looks) and 13
Red-Tails were counted today as well as continuing strong numbers of
Sharpies (95), Coops (20) and Turkey Vultures (84). The obvious star though
was Golden Eagle #4 for the season, which was spotted directly overhead at
1:10 heading West. Late in the day we were also treated to a Merlin
ruthlessly attacking Ozzy the owl decoy for about 5 minutes. Blue skies for
most of the morning made it difficult at times to pick birds out, but
luckily several observers came by to lend a hand. Many thanks to Mike
Warner, Ken Mirman, Nancy Glynn, Carole Griffiths, Joe Zeranski, Shaun
Martin and Dan Schniedewind + Christina Lupoli from Chestnut Ridge
Hawkwatch for all your help with today's count.
