Good luck.  Its a great opportunity.  I shoot a 600mm with a 1.4x converter and have good images of chicks within the nest.  Your 500 should do well on the fully grown birds.  My recollection is range is 100-150 yards(?) to the nest.

To all who replied with location & directions, I appreciate you're help. I just hope my 500mm does the job.On the Hudson when everything comes together a 200-300mm is more than enough. First nice day and no wind I'm off.
