Haddam Meadows SP - WED 6/14/15

>From Rick Gedney: (with another birder met on path)
12 noon -1:30 PM 14 degrees F, slight breeze - (felt colder)

No luck on my 6th attempt for Northern Shrike but raptors were good.
5 Bald Eagles (all imm.) feeding on a carcass on the ice in the middle of the frozen CT River about 400 yards south of the boat launch. Animal appeared to be a WT Deer that may have caught a leg in a crack in the ice. Bonanza for the eagles and good digiscoping opportunity. Eagles rollicked and rolled for position.
2 Red-Shoulder Hawks -(one imm. and one adult) gave fine looks perched low on the ends of the path heading north from the boat launch.
1 Red-Tailed Hawk - perched near the skating pond - until skaters starting playing hockey
Also had previously observed Hermit Thrush on path.
Did not see Mockingbird or Catbird observed on Sunday.
Flocks of sparrows and Juncos appear to be building.
Bluebird flocks cycling around not observed at that time.
