[CT Birds] Stratford and Milford Highlights

 CT Audubon Eco Travel group did a tour of Stratford and Milford today.The following are some highlights:Frash Pond, Stratford - Hooded and Common merganser, black ducksLong Beach Stratford - Long tailed Ducks and Common Goldeneye Short Beach Stratford - Two Snowy owls across the channel along the beach at Milford point.One was completely white and one showed a lot of streaking. Saw the streaked one again from the tower and platform at Milford Coastal Center. (thanks to the Coastal Center for letting us take a lunch break in your classroom!)Also several common loon and bufflehead.Birdseye Boat ramp - Green winged teal, gadwall, coot.Raven Pond - Stratford - Drake and hen Northern Pintail and drake Wood Duck  continue with hundreds of mallardsAlso first cycle Iceland gull on one of the smaller docks in with ringbilled and herring gulls.Silver Sands SP, Milford - Red Shouldered Hawk and MerlinMondo Pond, Milford - Redhead, American wigeon, coot, ring-necked ducks.Long Wharf, New Haven - several black bellied plover.
50 species total count for the day - not bad for a cool and snowy day!!
