Dear CT Birding Community,
Staff from Audubon Connecticut, the CT Agricultural Experiment Station, and a service forester, provided habitat assessments to 40 landowners interested in managing their woods with bird in mind in 2014. During an assessment, an Audubon biologist recorded current bird use and assessed habitat availability. A team from the CAES collected quantitative data on forest structure, while the service forester completed a qualitative assessment and helped translate bird habitat recommendations into forestry techniques.
This summer, Audubon CT is seeking 2 field technicians to return to the properties assessed in 2014 to conduct standardized bird surveys. The data collected during these surveys and the quantitative data collected during the assessments will be used to model forest bird distribution and abundance, allowing us to better understand the habitat preferences of focal species. Field technicians would start May 4th and work until July 17th. The technicians will work 35 hours per week and will be reimbursed for travel. Pay is $12/hr and housing is available in Sharon, CT. This project is funded by the United State Forest Service.
