3/28/2015The New Haven Bird Club "Gull & Gannet Frenzy" trip, led by Frank Mantlik, with 13 other birders. A cold, windy, snowy wintry-like day, despite the calendar saying its Spring. Temp 32F, wind from NNW @ 15-20 mph, steady snowfall, with 1" accumulation on grassy surfaces. The group met at Lordship Seawall, then visited Long Beach, Stratford Point, and Short Beach. There were decent numbers of usual gull species, a nice variety of waterfowl, and a few surprise land birds. We identified 40 bird species. Highlights were: nineteen species of waterfowl, including all three Scoter species, Northern Shoveler (pair), Northern Pintail (pair), plus Bonaparte's Gulls, Tree Swallows, Snow Bunting, and Eastern Meadowlark (2).
