A really productive evening along a very short stretch of coastlline
between Oyster River (West Haven/Milford line) and Bradley Point in
West Haven. Here are the highlights:

Milford/West Haven line, Oyster River - adult MEW GULL, apparently
same bird as seen previously by Mayn Hipp and Mike Warner at Southport
Beach several days prior. A detailed post on subspecific
identification with photos upcoming.

West Haven, Bradley Point with Julian Hough - SNOWY OWL atop rock
outcropping during evening, first cycle ICELAND GULL, adult FORSTER'S
TERN, two adult NORTHERN GANNET.

The Mew Gull was only present at the mouth of the Oyster River for a
couple of minutes. It circled high and drifted to the south over Long
Island Sound. Soon after, many gulls were seen plankton feeding well
into the distance (near the breakwaters), and this is where the Mew
Gull may have gone. Refinding the bird will take some luck, but
keeping an eye out at coastal gull roosts in the area is a good idea.
Again, much more on this bird soon.
