Dear CT Birding Community,

Audubon CT is still looking for a field technician to conduct standardized forest bird surveys this late spring/summer. The field technician would start May 4th (some flexibility as this date is quickly approaching) and work until July 17th. The technicians would work 35 hours per week and would be reimbursed for travel. Pay is $12/hr and housing may be available in Sharon, CT. This project is funded by the United State Forest Service.

Essential Functions:
. Flag survey points and routes for volunteers assisting with the project.
. The technician would conduct point counts at 10-15 locations. Each location will be visited twice during the breeding season (May 20th - July 1st). Surveys will take place just after sunrise; with travel to sites, the field technician should expect to start their day by 5am.
. The technician would engage landowners who wish to come along during bird surveys and enter data collected by field techs and volunteers into an excel spreadsheet.

 Qualifications and Experience:
. Field tech should have some birding by ear experience. The Surveys will focus on the following forest nesting bird species: Wood Thrush, Veery, Eastern Wood Pewee, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, Ovenbird, Scarlet Tanager, Eastern Towhee, Blackburnian Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Black-billed Cuckoo, and Worm-eating Warbler.
. Ability to work independently in the field. Field tech must be comfortable going off trail and able to locate survey points using a GPS unit and map.
. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and strong data collection and organizational skills.
. Flexibility in schedule, that accommodates various weather conditions, and good communication skills are important.
. Experience as an educator or in outreach and AcGIS skills are desired, but not essential.
. Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record and undergo criminal background check as per Audubon's policy;

Interested? Send me an email or give me a call.

Thank you!
