On Monday, the Prime Minister of Malta closed the spring hunting season after an injured kestrel plummeted into a schoolyard, traumatizing the children. Hunters for years have been shooting thousands of birds, including rare species, as they fly over the island..."if it flies it dies" being the motto. Malta has enacted some laws concerning hunting of birds, but hunters are still slaughtering birds. There is strong support for this wanton shooting of birds on Malta, despite laws and condemnation by European bird organizations.
