By the way, speaking of bird advocacy efforts I wanted to let folks know that their efforts on the petition regarding state land transfers were successful (so far!).  The session ended without them taking up the provisions that would have transferred part of Silver Sands and allowed a gravel mining roads to be constructed across the Quinebaug Wildlife management Area.  Word is that there will be further discussions as part of the upcoming special session.  Thank you to all who signed the petition on this issue  back in March!  Your pressure worked, but stay tuned for details on potential additional action that may be needed.

The house of representatives just passed a provision to bar enforcement of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act!!!  If it passes in the Senate violators will be free to kill raptors and songbirds with impunity. It just never stops.
