After 3 years of hearing but not seeing any Marsh Wrens, at last- a Marsh Wren at Great Meadows unit of the Steward B Mckinney NWR on Long Beach Blvd. in Stratford that has been singing out in the open, and within 10 feet of us on the path, three weeks this month.  If you follow the path that goes east along the railroad tracks and doubles back in an s-shape, this wren's territory is before you go out to the viewing platform in the marsh, by a stack of 6x6s on the right. Last week he was also helicoptering up into the air and hovering like a hummer in his courtship display. Quite unafraid of us. Stay on the path because this is his nesting territory and you don't want to disturb the nest. Of note is the extreme angle of his tail, almost pointing to the back of his head. p.s. Watch out for ticks.
