We took advantage of a day off from work to go kayaking on the East River in
Madison. Highlights were three WHIMBRELS (presumably continuing birds from
the five seen recently), eight other shorebird species including
Short-billed Dowitchers and a family of four American Oystercatchers
(unusual that they had come from the shore up the river), and a Pileated
Woodpecker, in the mature oaks by the river north of Clapboard Hill Road. 45
species in all. Full report on ebird.
