Subject: [CT Birds] Stratford Western Sandpiper (s)

Ben Oko and I had an adult Western Sandpiper roosting among the semis under the lighthouse at high tide at Stratford Point this morning. Bill Wallace is also here and had what sounded like a second Western Sandpiper, also an adult, but with more breeding plumage left on it. Ben and I also had a flock of about 80 Black-bellied Plovers roosting on the rocks. Scott Kruitbosch had a "Western" Willet here too, which flew across the river to Milford. Bill was at Milford Point earlier and mentioned a Black Tern was there.

Aside from that there are still a few Bank Swallows hanging out on the wire here along with the Barn and Tree. There were three Bobolinks here yesterday.

The sunflowers are in bloom in the feed plot and should be going to seed soon. We have a good crop of what I'm hoping is a good addition to feed plots, red millet. It is very similar in structure to foxtail grasses, but unlike them is commercially available. It came in from the bag of finch mix we raked into the feed plot in the NE corner of the plot. There are also a few green, giant and yellow foxtail grasses coming in, but the red millet is quite thick. The white proso millet is also coming in well.

Patrick.
