8/17. West Haven, Sandy Point 4:00-6:40pm - 33 species.
Highlights were: PIED-BILLED GREBE (in lagoon at mid-tide), 2 Yellow-crowned Night-Herons, 2 RED KNOTS ( flew by and landed on northernmost sandbar in harbor), 3 "WESTERN" WILLETS, in great comparison with 10 of the "Eastern" race, 3 Piping Plovers, 1500 Laughing Gulls ( huge influx today from the south; about 65% juveniles), 2 adult ROSEATE TERNS (perched among Common Terns on row of short wooden pilings in harbor), MERLIN, 2 Monk Parakeets.

The number of shorebirds (10 species) here was disappointing, given the date and tide. And all the gulls were mostly loafing, waiting for food/fish to appear. I saw no sign of menhaden surfacing anywhere in the harbor.
