[CT Birds] Great Gull Island Work Weekends

There are several opportunities to get out to Great Gull Island in the coming weeks to help them wrap up the season.   The island can be pretty spectacular this time of year for sea watching and landbirds.   The conditions are a bit rustic, with no electricity, but it is a spectacular part of the local world:

Friday boats                                   Sunday/ Monday boats

Sept. 4                                          Sept. 6  /  Sept. 7  (2 boats on Labor Day weekend)
Sept. 11                                        Sept. 13
Sept. 18                                       Sept. 20
Sept. 25                                       Sept. 27  (tentative)
Oct. 2                                         Oct. 4    (tentative)

Boats will leave at 3:00 pm from Captain George Main's dock 25 Cove Street, Noank, Ct.  Directions are below.

If any of the above dates are good for you, please sign up!  And let Helen know! (860-460-0749) / hays at amnh.org<mailto:hays at amnh.org>.  There is lots to do: collecting dowels, collecting paper, and the dock should go in the second week in September!

Directions to boat:
Coming from the west:

Take exit 88 off I-95.
Turn right (south) on rte. 117.
In about a mile, turn left(east on rte 1).
In about a mile, turn right (south) on rte 215.
In about 2 miles, turn left (east) on Marsh Road.
In about 0.25 mile, go right (south) on High St.
In about 600 feet, turn right (west) on Terrace and then right on Cove St.
Captain Main's is at end of Cove Street.
