to an occurrence of an adult on Long Island in the early 1970’s in Brookhaven. The habitat was a small rectangular man-made pond - created from excavation of sand. The pond was a seemingly sterile environment and was surrounded by shrub thickets - probably high bush blueberry and sweet pepper bush. Of the easiest way to find the gallinule was to listed for the rustling of the bird as it walk through the shrubs.
