A Constitutional Amendment to Better Protect Public Lands

As reported in CLCC's February eNews , this Friday (2/19), there is a public hearing before the Environment Committee to hear a proposed Constitutional Amendment bill ( SJ5 ). This is your opportunity to offer testimony that will ensure this bill results in better protection of your public conservation, recreation and agricultural lands.

The CT Council on Environmental Quality Report , " Preserved But Maybe Not: The Impermanence of State Conservation Lands" , published in January 2014, includes a recommendation that the General Assembly should start the process for amending the State Constitution to establish a system to ensure that public lands are protected to the greatest extent possible.

This Friday is your chance to help get that process started.

Click HERE for more information on the Constitutional Amendment prepared by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association including:

    * talking points on the issue that you can use in your testimony; and
    * specific recommendations to improve SJ5 ( including an important request to expand the language to also include state recreation and agricultural lands )
Your participation is critical! Here's how you can help:

    *
Email Your Testimony : Please email your testimony to envtestimony at cga.ct.gov
(word or pdf format), with "Environment Committee Testimony, SJ5, 2/19/16 " in subject line.

    * Contact your Legislators : Send them a copy of your testimony. Click HERE to find your legislators' contact information. (Please copy CLCC on your email too)
    * Attend the Public Hearing: February 19, 2016, 10:30am, Legislative Office Building, Room 2B
    * Speak at Public Hearing: If you wish to testify, sign-ups for the hearing will begin taking place at 8:15 am in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB.
Parking at the LOB: Parking is free in the LOB garage, but you can no longer access the building via the 3rd floor. You need to enter in the front of 300 Capitol Ave.to get through security.

If you have any questions or need assistance with testimony, please contact CLCC Executive Director Amy B. Paterson .

Other items of interest on Friday's Environment Committee Agenda:
