Dear Larry,

Cottontail rabbits usually just make a scrape, they do not burrow underground like European rabbits. They will try to hide it in a thicket (a “briar patch”) but sometimes the scrape can be pretty much out in the open which makes the kits easy pickings for cats and other predators like your crows and hawk.
