4/21 - New Milford yard - two days ago a friend mounted two nest boxes in my yard, testing a new design - one replaced an old bluebird box about 25 feet from another BB box, which a female bluebird had been inspecting.  In no time, the male was on top of the new, red box.   The female continued at the old box and this morning had a complete nest.  The male continued to claim ownership of the red box. Ha! The second box is for smaller birds, and this morning a couple of chickadees was busy filling it with green moss.  A bit early for them?  Presumably this warm weather.   Also had a palm warbler feeding on the back lawn, plus ruby-crowned kinglet and blue-gray gnatcatchers singing.
