04-28-16 6pm, Groton-Bluff Point Coastal Reserve - BLACK SWAN (exotic/escapee) swimming with MUTE SWANS eastern side of Bluff Point in Mumford Cove. Beautiful black plumage with striking/vibrant reddish-orange Bill. Escapee or not- glad to have observed it feeding in a scenic location with minimum disturbance. For those interested park at hot corner (just past RR bridge). Go up path and around Amtrak fence and take left hand side path. Follow this path until it forks. Go left and walk all the way down (heading towards Haley Farm - parallel to RR track) until you reach a green gate. The walking path forms a worn muddy oval around gate. Take first path on the right just past gate(50 yds?). Walk until you see Mumford Cove in front of you. BLACK SWAN was feeding on the left side very close to shore. Also usual spring migrants WHITE-EYED VIREO, YELLOW WARBLERs(3), GREATER YELLOWLEGS(6), etc., etc.
