Began with a half-dozen male goldfinches in full breeding plumage ,
followed by two male rose-breasted grosbeaks, one with a long tear-drop
extension of the crimson plumage, then by a male indigo bunting, feeding on
ground beneath the feeder, then, a beautiful male northern oriole in full
breeding plumage, not feeding at the feeder, but apparently dropping by to
seewhat the conclave was about. We hastened to halve a couple of oranges
and place them on the deck railing. Suzie Forster and Bill Riley
