5/25 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 9:40-1:00PM.
Low tide rising, sunny70F.
9:40-10:00 Marsh & sandy area on Long island sound side.
2-semipalmated plovers, 2 Dunlin, 3 Black bellied plovers 2 Tree swallows
in nest box, 2 Song sparrows. 1 Killdeer with 3 chicks.
About 18 Purple Martins in gourd condos - very melodious.
On grounds: 4 Cowbirds, 6 Mourning doves, 7 Red winged blackbirds,
numerous Grackles, Starlings, 1 male Baltimore Oriole singing, male &
female cardinal, 2 Warbling vireos.
Viewed from windows facing marsh:
at 10am female osprey was on nest and male osprey preening on ground. At
11am the male osprey flew off, returning at 11:20 with a fish. He consumed
the entire fish on his perch within an hour.
5 Great Egrets, 2 Snowy egrets, 3 Black bellied plovers (possibly from
Sound side) 100+ Semi palmated sandpipers-bathing and feeding as tide is
coming in, 4 Mute swans, 3 House finches (male) at feeders, 2 Tree swallows
in nest box facing marsh, 4 Least terns diving in marsh for fish.
