6/22 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center 9am-12:30PM 75-80F low
tide rising.
At 9 am, the female osprey was on the nest with the one chick. Other two
eggs are not hatching. Male osprey was on the perch. Female was
shadowing/shading the chick all morning. Lots of calling when another
osprey entered their air space. One of the other observers mentioned that
last week the chick was in the nest upside down for a couple of hours,
until the female uprighted it. I hope the female builds up the edges of
the nest because the chick is moving around quite a bit.
On marsh: 9 Great Egrets, 3 Snowy Egrets, 8 Mute swans, 1 D.C cormorant, 4
mallards, and 1 Killdeer on edge of marsh.
On grounds: 1 Catbird, 1 mockingbird, Common grackles, Robins, mourning
doves, blue jay, cardinal,2 Tree swallows tending to the nest box, 2 Cedar
waxwings, 1 Eastern Phoebe singing and many Purple martins in and around
the gourds. The nest with camera still has 5 eggs,
14 juvenile starlings all flocked together drinking and bathing at edge of
marsh.
1 Woodchuck which got the attention of the campers.
