[CT Birds] Cuckoos on the ground

Glenn's report of a Black-billed Cuckoo on the ground and the recent
sighting of one showing similar behavior at Lighthouse Point are likely the
result of Woolly Bears (Isabella tiger moth caterpillars), which are
numerous this time of year. Cuckoos are hairy caterpillar specialists and
are probably taking advantage of an easy meal on the ground. This ground
foraging behavior among cuckoos is rare to see in CT because most cuckoos
are out of the state by the time Woolly Bears become common or are in a
late instar stage.
