Dear Members of the Connecticut Ornithological Association, and Viewers of the COA Website,
Posted on our homepage, please find the Winter 2016 issue of the COA Bulletin. This issue contains dates and compiler contact information for the 20 upcoming Christmas Bird Counts to be held in Connecticut this year. Also included is a fascinating article on The 2016 Big Sit held on October 9 at Milford Point, written by Frank Mantlik.
The issue has photos of some of the more notable birds located in the state this fall, including the first chase-able Say’s Phoebe in the state and the first state record for Sprague’s Pipit. A few species of fall sparrows also are featured.
Several pertinent COA announcements will be of interest, such as the 2017 Mini-Grants and the 2017 Young Birders Scholarship opportunities. Please "Save The Date" for the 2017 COA Annual Meeting, to be held on Saturday, March 18 at Middlesex Community College in Middletown. The Bulletin also carries the “Twenty-five Years Ago in The Connecticut Warbler” article.
I also would like to note that the COA Connecticut Birding Events Calendar maintained by Jim Dugan contains a wealth of information on field trips, programs, and other bird-related activities through the year. Nearly 2,000 such events have been listed there in the past 12 months!
The officers and board of the Connecticut Ornithological Association wish you and yours all the best at this holiday season.
